Recipe Ingredients

Butter – you can also use olive oil.

Italian sausage – hot or mild Italian sausage both work great depending on your preference! Use ground sausage or links that are sliced or cut into bite-sized pieces.

Pasta sauce – any marinara sauce or tomato-based sauce of your choosing. You can even use vodka sauce or arrabbiata!

Mozzarella – I like to freshly grate it myself when I have time since it melts better than pre-shredded, but either way works.

Pasta for this Instant Pot Pizza Pasta recipe, I used pipe rigate pasta. But feel free to use your favorite shape! Some of my other favorite options include fusilli, cavatappi, farfalle, Spaghetti, or penne.

FAQ

Can I add extra cheese?

Of course! If you’re a cheese lover like me, I totally understand this question.

Hard cheeses like Parmesan or Grana Padano can be mixed into the pasta dish. They are also frequently sprinkled on top for garnish, adding a lasting impact of flavor.

What’s the difference between pizza and pasta sauce?

Pizza and pasta sauce look exactly the same but there is one major difference. Jarred pasta sauce is seasoned and simmered or roasted for depth of flavor. Pizza sauce on the other hand is usually simpler and uncooked.

This Instant Pot Pizza Pasta calls for a mix of the two because the pizza sauce adds brightness from the fresh tomatoes and the pasta sauce adds seasoning and a deeper flavor. If you only have one, that’s totally fine! Just use 24 ounces of sauce total.
